FAQ
Frequently Asked Question (as of 6/19/09)
Why are there so few articles here?
We “launched” just a few days ago. Middle of June, 2009.
Why is there nothing going on in the forums?
Again, just launched. Not sure how we’re going to end up laying out the forums, so just go post in there, and we’ll make it easier to navigate as time goes by.
Why should I read this site?
Rather than try to post the latest news/rumors, or review things from a strictly geek/professional point of view, we intend to look at things from the point of view of a normal consumer. Most people don’t care too much about the L2 cache of the processor in the Dell they just bought. They just want to know if it’s slow or not. We intend to mention these things for some of our readers who DO care about specs, but that won’t be our primary focus.
How come you don’t update 2, 4, 10, 20 times a day like the bigger/better sites?
Because there are only two of us, and we both have normal jobs and families.
I notice there are no ads, why is that?
We’re primarily focused on getting the content of this site built up so that there are articles that can be read by a lot of people, and get people going on the forums. From what we understand, monetizing a site is a bit of a science, and since we don’t want this place loaded with ads that annoy the readers, we’ll wait and slowly add them over time, so as not to piss people off but at the same time give us a little bit of a kickback for our efforts.
Are you going to do any liveblogs or podcasts?
If for some reason one of us has a chance to go to a Convention (E3, WWDC, CES, etc), then sure, we’d like to liveblog any major announcements, but that’s probably not going to happen anytime soon. We don’t live in Southern California where a lot of this stuff goes on. As far as podcasts, that’s on the agenda – again, we want to build up readership first.
What if this site takes off, are you going to sell out?
We don’t plan on it. There are a lot of technology sites out there, and they’ve got plenty of writers. I doubt we’ll be asked to join one of the various big media outlets. If we got to the point where we could get another writer or two, that would be cool just to expand the points of view.
Your opinion sucks. You don’t know anything. I’m outta here.
Right on.
What’s up with the layout? Pretty rudimentary.
The goal here is to produce interesting content. Once we’ve got a good rhythm, we’ll focus on adjusting the layout of the site. For now, we’re hosted with an inexpensive hosting provider, on Wordpress, with a free theme and some plugins. You only get so much for free.
Why did you start this site?
We read all of the other major gadget blogs and forums out there, and we have an opinion. Rather than get caught up in the comment wars on those sites, we thought we’d just voice our thoughts this way.
What makes you guys experts worthy of having a tech blog?
Nothing really. We’ve both been in IT for roughly 10 years, and have always had an inclination towards gadgets. Neither of which qualifies us to write on the subject. But, we do it anyway.
