Should I buy an Xbox 360? 10 Reasons why I did.
After more than a month of internal debate, I finally decided to buy an Xbox 360. My brother-in-law got one for Christmas, but since he’s not too technical, he hadn’t performed the Dashboard update and had not subscribed to any online options. I played a little bit of Madden 09 and that reminded me how much I liked that series. This past weekend, I spent some time with a friend who also has a 360 with all the current updates. I messed around with the Dashboard, going through all the options. I also played a few of the games, although the games he has aren’t necessarily the ones I would purchase. The video is a vast improvement over the Wii I had and certainly better than the PS2 and Xbox I used to own. So, yesterday, I pulled the trigger and bought one. Now I just have to rewire my household network so as to avoid spending $99 on a Microsoft branded WiFi adapter.
Here are the top 10 reasons that pushed me over the edge to spend $276 on a new gaming console.
1 – More of my friends have an Xbox 360 than a Wii or Playstation 3.
2 – I had a Wii and didn’t like it that much. Sold it to help pay for the Xbox.
3 – Playstation 3 still costs too much. I bought the Pro System for 15% off through Dell.com with free shipping. I can buy an HDMI cable for less than $5 and I’ve never been one to hoard data, so 120gb is probably overkill for me.
4 – On-Demand movies. Netflix and Live Marketplace.
5 – Most of the RRoD issues have been worked out, and assuming I get a JasperXbox, it should be quieter than the first two iterations.
6 – Microsoft branded photo viewing from my PC to my TV. Well, once I upgrade to Windows 7, that is, since it doesn’t work natively with XP.
7 – Madden 10, Forza 3, Battlefield 2, Halo 3, Halo ODST, 1 vs 100, Ghostbusters
8 – Voice Chat.
9 – I need something to ween me off of World of Warcraft.
10 – I need something that my wife might want to play with me (see #9).
