Best Buy using interesting tactic for hopeful Palm Pre buyers.
So, like many of you, I wasn’t the first person in line at my local Best Buy on the Pre release day. I figured I’d give it a week or so to see how things played out before heading to my local store and attempting to get my hands on one. Not too surprisingly, as of this weekend my local Best Buy was still sold out and offered to put me on the waiting list. Just a name and a phone number was all they needed and they assured me I’d be contacted as soon as a phone was ready for me.
Well, today it got interesting. Seems Best Buy isn’t happy with just having my name on the list. If I’d like to be guaranteed a Pre within two weeks, all I have to do is cough up $50 on a Best Buy gift card. It’s not clear whether I can use the card to purchase my new Pre, but either way I found it a bit sleazy on the part of Best Buy. If they can in fact promise me the phone, then they have to know that they’ll have X amount of Pre’s coming in within the two weeks. If this is the case, wouldn’t I be contacted anyway? Are they really selling better places in line? You decide! Either way, I’d have to believe this should be some hint that a larger distribution of the phones are about to hit your local stores as well.
Here’s to waiting! Be sure to let us know if you’ve been solicited in your area.
